“I am running my first full cycle and from an upstairs floor I could hear a persistent high pitch hum - I think maybe during the rinse cycle? Has anyone else experienced this?”

No, this is the quietest dishwasher I have ever owned. We have a open kitchen and living room and we can watch tv with no problems.
