Keep up with the tools you use from prep to table with this dishwasher's three racks of versatile loading possibilities and complete wash coverage. The FreeFlex third rack fits glasses, mugs, bowls, silverware, and cooking tools, freeing up room below for pots, plates, and mixing bowls. The advanced clean-water wash system circulates clean water to dishes in all three racks.
FreeFlex third rack
The large third rack has a deep, angled design that fits 6" glasses, mugs, and bowls.
It features rotating wash jets to clean items in the rack, a drying bar with tabs that help wick moisture off glasses, and a removable utensil tray for cooking tools. (Among leading brands based on usable volume.)
44dBA
Provides quiet cleaning without compromising performance, so there's no need to wait to run a wash cycle while entertaining and enjoying meals, even in open-concept kitchens.
Advanced clean-water wash system
Uses microfiltration to continuously remove food particles during the wash and rinse cycles and circulates clean water to dishes in all three racks. This allows dirty cookware and delicate glassware to be washed together in the same load.
ProWash cycle
Uses sensors to measure soil levels throughout the cycle and adapts wash time and water temperature as needed for tough messes or lighter loads because no two meals or the dishes that result are exactly the same.
PrintShield finish
Resists smudges and fingerprints. The specialized coating for stainless steel is easy to clean with just water and a soft cloth, so you can spend more time cooking and less time cleaning up the kitchen.
Adjustable middle rack
Adds flexibility to fit tall items, such as a stand mixer bowl. Lower the rack to place large dishes inside, or raise it to make room for platters, pitchers, blender jars and more in the rack below.
Durable stainless steel interior
Offers the beauty and benefits of stainless steel inside the dishwasher. It resists streaks, stains, and odors while retaining heat to help improve drying.
SatinGlide Max Rails in third and middle racks
Allow racks to move effortlessly, even when fully loaded.
Adjustable rows in middle and lower racks
Fold down to make room for dishes in a variety of shapes and sizes, such as roasting pans, serving bowls, colanders, and Dutch ovens.
Two stemware holders in middle rack
Secure wine glasses along the side of the rack to prevent them from moving around during the wash cycle.
Express wash cycle
Cleans in less time, so you always have the dishes you need while prepping, cooking, and entertaining.
Sani Rinse option
Eliminates most food soil bacteria
Top controls
The controls are tucked away on top of the dishwasher door for a clean look to match your kitchen style. An indicator light on the front of the door changes colors to subtly display cycle progress.
Dishwasher hookup kit is sold separately and is not included.

Q: QuestionWhat is the difference between the Kitchenaid dishwasher 404 and the 604 models?(4 answers)
A: AnswerThe main difference is that the 404 has 2 stemware holders and 604 has 4 stemware holders and the ProDry option with fan assist which 404 does not have- go here for comparison. - https://www.kitchenaid.com/content/kitchenaid/en_us/compare.KDFM404KPS.KDTE204KBL.KDTM604KPS.html (the 404 in the comparison does not have a towel bar but it does come with that option fyi and both have same third rack) For details on the 604: https://www.us-appliance.com/kdtm604kps.html I am opting for the 404 since the fan is just another thing that can break and they don't have the best reliability record to begin with. hope this helps!Answered by inquiringmind
- A: AnswerWhat I saw is that the 404 has adjustable tines on the 2nd shelf while the 204 doesn’t; also, the 404’s 3rd shelf allows for items other than just utensils (like coffee cups, small bowls) while the 204 is all flat and shallower.

Q: QuestionDoes this dishwasher have a food grinder?(5 answers)
A: AnswerNo, this dishwasher does not have a food grinder.Answered by CommunityAnswer
Q: QuestionAre the racks moveable ? Can you remove the 3rd rack ?(4 answers)
A: AnswerHi Mary. You can remove the third and second rack for this KitchenAid® Dishwasher.Answered by KitchenAidTeam
Q: QuestionMust I rinse the dishes before putting them in this dishwasher?(2 answers)
A: AnswerI would just remove the big stuff, potato skins, meat bones, etc. If you mix cleaner and dirtier dishes then the dirtier dishes may not get clean. KA claims they have a dirt sensor and if no dirt is sensed then it goes to the next cycle. This does not necessarily clean even you cleaner dishes. We have had excellent results except for some skillets with burned on food.Answered by Draftrider
Q: QuestionWhat is the tiny pinhole that is in the top right front door of the 604 Kitchenaid model?(1 answer)
A: AnswerNot sure if I have the same model, but on my KitchenAid, that hole is where the indicator light shines—blue for washing, red for drying, and white for done. The light stays lit until you open the door at the end of the cycle.Answered by HappyintheKitchen
- A: AnswerYes. I have mine adjusted to 34.5 and it has a lot of adjustments for height.

- A: AnswerThe utensil holder is great. It is a solidly built basket with a handle. And you can remove the lid that divides your silverware. One thing to note is that the slots for the silverware vary in size, and while they accommodate my silverware fine, be aware that if you have extra large dinner knives, the slots may be a tad narrow for you.

Happy Customer - Works, sounds and looks great
After a couple of months and daily use I can say this is a great dishwasher, I feel it's worth the price. Best points: 1) It's quiet. For all intents and purposes it's unnoticeable. The loudest noise (and it's not loud at all) is the sound of the water jets hitting a large bowl if you happen to have one in there. 2) It holds a lot of stuff. The 3rd (top) rack is useable - great for glasses, cups and long flat utensils. 3) It cleans and dries really well. The only times I've had anything wet after a cycle is glassware lids with a gasket and/or an errant bowl/cup not facing down. (Can't really fault those.) 4) I have to comment on the door closing feel; it feels/sounds awesome, like a bank vault. Could be better (not really problems): 1) With the top mount controls you often accidentally press a button when closing the unit. It doesn't start, just you feel the need to press "cancel" 2) The ProWash (best) cycle takes a long time. (Couple hours? I never measured it.). Because it fits so much, and it's quiet, we run it later in the evening. 3) I was initially a little disappointed it is not flush the surrounding cabinetry, it sticks out about an inch. I'm over that now. (See pic) We'll see how it holds up in the long run but so far I have zero regrets even with the higher price.

Great quality, cleans well, very quiet
First of all, I need to give a warning. If you purchase this online AND schedule installation at the same time, be sure to CALL BEST BUY AND CONFIRM that your installation is actually scheduled. My account said I had a scheduled installation (gave me a date and time) but it apparently didn't register with BB. I called the day before to be sure they were coming and BB customer service said they hadn't received my schedule request and that the machine was still in a warehouse in another state. It took another full week to get in installed. Save yourself the grief and be sure to confirm, no matter what your account with BB may say. Now that I've said that, I'm very happy with the dishwasher. I've run 2 loads so far and everything comes out clean and it's super quiet. Apparently quiet dishwashers don't have a grinder, as is the case with this one, and in the place of that there's a filter that needs to be cleaned. I've read complaints about that and I don't understand what there is to complain about. You just lift it out and rinse it. I've shown a picture of it and it couldn't be easier. To expand on the quiet - our bedroom is off of the kitchen. I scheduled a 4 hour delay last night so it must have started around 2:00am. I am a light sleeper and I didn't hear anything at all. It looks good and feels high quality. The feel and sound of the door when I shut it reminds me of the solid thunk of an airplane door being closed. The handle has a sleek industrial look and it feels good in the hand. If you're very detail oriented, I should mention that the caps on the end of the handle are red. The buttons are sensitive so if I brush them I can hear them beep. I can tell that I'm going to have to be careful about that. I like the third rack, though it's taking some time to get used to because I go back and forth on what to put where. It does seem like it holds more than my old Whirlpool. I recommend this. I'm giving 4 stars for value because I judge value by longevity as well and I can't attest to that. I hope we get many years out of it.

Great Dishwahser
We had a Keitnaid dishwasher installed by the previous owner. It worked great until my son started jumping on the door when it opened and broke the springs. Even though it was still working, the door would slam down, which was dangerous for the kids. So we decide to replace it and purchase this unit. We had it for two weeks so far, and we love it. Now we have the 3rd rack and can put chopsticks on the top shelf. The installation was fast and great, and On-time; the dishes were clear and dry. Very good experience so far.
