“Should this oven be run on a 20 or 40 amp circuit on my electrical panel? It says 17.8 amperes but ovens are usually 40 amp. Is it ok to connect to 40 amp circuit if that's what my kitchen already has? Thank you.”

I'm not giving electrical design advice, but this is my understanding. Appliances should not exceed 80% of their ckt breaker rating. So 17.8 amps is 89% of 20 amp, which means a 20 Amp breaker is too small, but a 30Amp (59.3%) or 40 Amp (44.5%) should be fine. I've had this KitchenAid oven for a few months using a 40amp breaker, and no electrical issues.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Use the breakers the installation instructions tell you to use for your model oven. Do not over size the breakers. The ovens will work with over sized breakers but you risk damage to the oven and worse.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Since your Oven says 17.8 Amps, you should run it on a 20 Amps Circuit; Replace your current 40 amp circuit breaker with a 20 Amp breaker. The reason is you want to protect your Oven from drawing more than 20 Amp at any tine, like if oven gets shorted or over loaded etc. 20 amp circuit breaker protects your oven. Hope this helps. We did the same thing with our new oven.
