Yes, there are no built in speakers within this system.

Please try again later.I had the same issue & figured out that you must go into the sound settings in the control panel and change it to speakers, as opposed to the likely default setting of the monitor. If your monitor is connected with an HDMI, which also carries a digital audio signal, I'm guessing the computer recognizes that and assumes you're wanting to send the audio signal through that connection, which for most people would not be correct since most modern, flatpanel monitors have no speakers. Once I changed the sound settings to use speakers as the default, my connected speakers (yes, you'll need some) will work.
