I'm not sure if it hibernates, but it definitely holds its battery for a long time when it is shut. I've had it closed and unplugged for a whole weekend and still had half the battery on monday.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My experience is that Chromebook batteries are it's Achilles Heel. This is my fifth Chromebook and every one of them has a battery that discharges very quickly.

Assuming your Chromebook is truly sleeping, there should be no problem lasting overnight unless the battery is nearly dead--which might be the case with your old Chromebook. The other possible source of your problem might be that your old Chromebook might not be sleeping at night. Check Chromebook Settings to make sure you have Sleep selected when the cover is closed. Otherwise, the Chromebook will remain fully active, which would obviously consume much more battery than if it was sleeping. You could shut down at the end of the day. Unlike Windows, restarting would take only a few seconds, so restarting would not cause a serious impact. Of course, the other option would be to leave your Chromebook plugged in overnight. If the battery has been draining completely regularly for a long time, there is a good chance the battery is starting to fail. There's a battery test option in Diagnostics in Chromebook Settings.
