“Can the batteries in these new laptops be replaced or are they hard wired & I would only be using it as a back up device knowing that it would sit for awhile without a charge so does a low/empty battery cause any risk to the Laptop or the battery itself ?”

The battery within this device is not user removable. A certified technician could replace the battery if necessary. The device should not be stored with an empty battery. Charge the device before storing. With the device completely turned off, the battery should last for 60 days or more in the off position.
