• Hi Yoda8man, In most cases, it is recommended to match memory modules installed, but the system will support 8 + 16 memory sticks installed alongside each other, so long as the type of memory and its operating speed are identical.

• You can but its always "best" to go with the same amount than that of its counter part, it worked great with a crucial 8gb stick i purchased from amazon for $15.
