What medium is used to export or import data? null

I have used a flash drive to move some files. My access to Microsoft, I pay a monthly subscription, allows my easy access and transfer of files between the two laptops. I was concerned about compatibility because I had data being transferred via a flash drive that was comprised in 2009. I have not noted any issues thus far. As for pictures, correspondence, etc, that data was moved over by using a flash drive. I have not tried using my external usb cd/dvd reader/writer/player yet. I have disks with data, so I’ll see at a later time if the files can be exported. Although I can stream movies and such I do have DVDs I want to play.
