“Is it possible for the home user to remove the m.2 ssd drive and upgrade it ourselves? Is the SSD soldered or is it removeable?”

• Hey, You could upgrade the M.2 2242 SSD yourself--it isn't soldered to the systemboard. Though we always recommend consulting a Lenovo authorized technician for any system servicing, Please feel free to reach out to us with any other questions!
