Yes it is normal in the user guide it tells you it the time only stays on for 5mins after actively using the microwave

The clock automatically goes off about after 15 sec. this is normal and happens on them all. If you wanna see what time it is just hit the stop button on the microwave or open the door and it will come back up. I had to get use to it as well. But not a big deal. Hope this helps.
