Likely depends on TV model and age but I would say yes. On a Fire TV enabled smart TV, (Omni, Insignia, LG, Samsung, Toshiba) you just have to add Equipment from the settings menu and add your model sound bar. The TV speakers will then be disabled. TV remote should work for power and volume on sound at.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have an LG TV, which has the option to block the sound of the TV speakers and through the optical cable only the sound bar is heard, however it also has the option of listening to the sound bar and the TV speakers.

Bottom line is, most of the speaker systems installed in current flat screens are hideously awful. You buy a soundbar for better sound ...so make sure to deactivate the internal speaker system on the TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It depends on the TV and it depends on how you connect the soundbar to the TV. Best thing to do is pull out the manual for the TV and read what it says. Also, in the TV "Settings" menu, you can go to the "Audio" section and see what options you have there. You may also have to dig into the owners manual and find out if there are any automatic "priorities" that may occur based on how you have the TV connected to the soundbar.
