The LG pedestals are made from painted sheet steel for the framework and the drawer is made of a rather thick plastic (probably nylon). The plastic drawer makes it easy to remove and wash out in the bathtub or with a hose outside if the need ever arises. We previously had Whirlpool Duet and these pedestals are taller which makes getting in and out of the washer and dryer so much easier!
