“Is there a reason that this cannot be used with a downdraft system Like I have on the 36" Cook Top I am replacing? Measurement wise, it appears that it will drop into the existing hole, that also houses the Downdraft system.”

It doesn't blow any air towards the burners, it sucks air away from the burners.
