Where did the 6" come from??? The Install 'requirements' note 4" at the rear, but that is rather general and basically a CYA. Where are your house water & drain connections? If they are in the back of the unit you will need the space - if they are on the side, away from the rear then the limiting factor becomes the water connection to the washer itself. Space work-around is to use a GOOD 90 degree gooseneck hose set [seems the recent stainless hoses have a manufacturing defect - one or two core MFGr's sold under several labels. they leak. good nylabraid gooseneck available], a straight connection hose will use too much space. Using the gooseneck, you can get 3 - 3.5" gap and still have good air flow.
