“Is physical depth of the machine really 30 inch? Or is it smaller than 30 inch and 30 inch is machine depth + clearance? If it is 30 inch in depth, do I need 30+4inch for installation with clearance?”

The machine itself is 30 inches, plus a fraction of an inch. You need clearance beyond that fr your hoses and vent. Note that you can side vent these units.
