• Yes it does lock once the machine has started, but you can pause it to add clothes.

• When you press Start/Pause to begin the wash cycle in the ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 5.0 Cu. Ft. 8-Cycle Top-Loading Washer with 6Motion™ Technology - White, Model # WT7300CW, the lid (door) locks, and the washer agitates briefly without water to measure the weight of the load. Additional garments can be added to the tub while the Add Garment light is on. The Add Garment light illuminates near the beginning of the wash cycle to indicate when it is safe to add items to the load.
