I use a optical cable for my 13 year old surround sound stereo. Other than that you need hdmi. One port has hdmi Earc if you do buy a sound bar. It doesn't have a/v inputs.

The sound quality on the BX 55-inch is very good. 

That said, we're using a sound bar simply because we have one, but I honestly don't think you need one.
