Yes. You don't need it. At first I added the plate using the two included screws, then I removed the louvered filler plate because I was able to slide the range further back, so that the small gap between parts of the range and the back of my counter is invisible from cooking positions, and pretty small even when viewed from directly above. I wanted to get the stove as far back as possible, since it protrudes a bit from my counter.
