I'm not sure what you mean by "very hot", but the glow your seeing is normal. You will also notice a glow in the oven when baking, this is also normal. Our back splash behind the oven is tile, so no safety risk.

This is normal for natural gas.With LP gas, some yellow tipping on outer cones is normal. The range comes from the factory with the air shutters adjusted for proper air flow for natural gas. If converted to LP, follow the instructions provided in the conversion kit to properly adjust the air shutters. ^Vanessa
