That is a generic question, irrelevant here, as this unit is not available in S Mode, but to answer your question, S Mode is MS's version of the Chrome OS: it restricts programs usable to those in the MS Store, which protects your computer from possibly harmful software, and also tends to provide prolonged battery life on a charge, since S Mode reduces background processes and CPU usage.

To increase security, it allows only apps from Microsoft Store, and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, or if you have Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, or Education and want to upgrade to Windows 11, you'll need to permanently switch out of S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode, but you won't be able to turn it back on.
