The clock on the microwave can do either. You can choose to have it on constantly - setting it up by holding the clock timer button down for 3 seconds to set the clock or initially when you plug it in, the clock is not set and does not show a display if you choose not to set it up. So you have a preference either way - if you do nothing there will not be a clock displayed. The only thing I'd like to point out about this microwave is that it takes a little longer to heat things up compared to my previous thermador microwave. It has a cool light the lights inside while heating something and a nice pleasant ding at the end when it's done. Only con in my experience is it takes a little longer to heat things.
