“Are these exclusively REAR speakers or can they be programmed to count as left/right surround speakers instead? My room isn't good for virtual surround so I'd prefer to have these as surround speakers for better 5.1 rather than mid 7.1”

Yes they are intended to be rear speakers to support a surround sound system. However, you can adjust the output setting in your menu to change the speaker output.~Tanisha
