• If your router is downstairs, the extender will be connected to it upstairs via wi-fi (wireless). The extender has an Ethernet port on it, so you could connect the laptop to the extender via wire. But the connection back to the router is still wireless. If you are concerned about a wireless connection, either move the router upstairs or run CAT5/6 cable to the upstairs room.
