• Hi, VictorianLace. If your Wi-Fi signal reaches upstairs then, the Linksys WUSB6100M adapter should be able to connect to your router's Wi-Fi.

• This little device has worked wonderfully for me. We live in a 1950's home with very solid walls and the computer is three rooms away from the router, but not on a different floor. One note - apparently some computers will recognize it as soon as it is plugged in - mine did not. I had to install the software included on DVD.
