If you have good line of site it could work. You might want to have one in the main house on a window sill facing your shop and another in a shop window facing the house. If the one in your shop lights up solid blue then you are all set.

I would buy it from a bricks and mortar Best Buy to make return/exchange easier, if necessary. There are so many factors that will affect range (line of sight, walls, wood vs steel structure, other WiFi devices, etc.)
