I don't think what you are asking is possible. The Velop Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi system takes the place of a standard router. You must connect one of the nodes via a cat 5 or cat 6 cable to your modem (cable, u-verse, etc ) then it distributes wi-fi throughout your home depending on how many nodes you have.
Unfortunately the Velop system is not set up to extend a wi-fi signal created by your mobile hot spot. It would be cool if it could though.

Try using a basic linksys extender with ethernet port. First connect portable hotspot to extender, then hard wire Velop to that ethernet port like a modem!

The mesh devices are routers. You can add a switch to an Ethernet port on any of the routers.

I think more information/clarification is needed. The hotspot on your will use the data connection that the phone is connected too that will be either your att data or what ever WiFi network you are connected to. The linksys velop is itself a WiFi connection so you can connect whatever device you are using your hotspot for directly to the linksys WiFi network that is created when setting it up. The linksys will work with the router provided by your Internet Service Provider (ATT, Spectrum, Xfinity etc).

The Velop can be a NAT router. What you need is a cable or DSL modem. If you have a cable or DSL ISP then you have one already. You connect the Velop to it and your phone connects to the Velop wirelessly.
