The tablet knows when it is in a typing position and when it is placed/folded behind the tablet (to which it will magnetically stay in its position, not being a hindrance. This should allow it to not react when it is in a folded position for tablet use or drawing.

This is one of the things that this case/keyboard combo does better that any other! The keyboard is NOT removable, HOWEVER it can be flipped around to the back for sketching/writing/tablet use. When you do that, it automatically disables the physical keyboard. If you press the keys while it’s in the back, it doesn’t do anything because it’s disabled. It works really well. If you are in a text editing app like Notes when you flip the keyboard to the back, the iPad will automatically switch to the virtual keyboard. When you bring the keyboard back around to the front, it switches from the virtual on-screen keyboard to the physical keyboard.

You can remove the ipad but that is rather difficult because the case is so solid

When you open it and lay it flat to use, the keyboard side is down and touching the surface you put it on. So in a coffee shop meeting, the keyboard can get pretty messy from spills on the table etc. Between this and the keyboard not being back lit, I will be returning it and looking for a better version

The keyboard cannot be disconnected, but I’ve had it folded back when not using it and even if I accidentally pushed a letter down it did not appear on the screen in front of me.

The keyboard is part of the case. It does fold into different positions allowing you to use it for drawing and sketching where its completely out of the way and it sits at an angle that works great for just that task

Just fold the keyboard behind the iPad and you're fine. You can also use a stylus and the keyboard at the same time.

You cannot do that you just fold it over and don't use it.
