A:AnswerYES you can install it anywhere you have studs on the wall. If we had installed it above our fireplace we would have been limited to a 55 inch TV. Instead, we purchased a 77 inch TV by placing the mantel mount on a wall that was the right distance from the viewing area. Some mounting hardware alternatives pull out and only swivel from side to side. We like the MantelMount because it ALSO pulls up and down. We actually have a love seat under ours, and in the "down" position it even clears the loveseat. If you hire Best Buy's Geek Squad to do the installation, be sure to request a team experienced with the MantelMount install specifically. Our first team did not install it right, but Best Buy was excellent at sending a second experienced team who installed it perfectly.
A:AnswerWhen installed following the instruction book -- the Mantel Mount does not have a reverse push-up feature. Once installed for the maximum height point, it pulls down for lower eye level viewing options and for swiveling side to side. It can then be lifted back up to the original starting position as desired. We leave it in the higher position when viewing across the room at a dining table, and bring it to the lower position for closer viewing at the sofa. A:AnswerThats hard to answer b/c for several reasons. One is the back of your TV and where the attachment points are on the TV. The metal attaching frames may be too long for a 42. I think The only way to really know is to buy the mount and test it out before the return date. The other issue is the larger mount is designed for a heavier TV and may not be able to adjust down the tension. I put a 65" on it and i practically had to remove most of the tension so my TV would stay in the full down position. I emailed the company and they responded with an answer in a couple days.

A:AnswerYou create "serice loops" for your cables and power cord. You can see my silver HDMI cable in the attached photo. Power and 2 other HDMI cables are also run the same, but they are black and harder to spot.
