• The door on this particular Maytag gas dryer only drops down and is referred to by the manufacturer as a “hamper” door. Most other models that feature a side opening door can be configured to open either to the right or left.

• Ours drops down, and has a pretty strong torsion spring or bar to close it. The door will slam shut if you let it.
