You have to change the audio output settings on your TV. Mine has the optical sound input. I go into sound settings and you an change from the TV speaker output to the optical output. Ahould be the same for your television.

So, I have to turn the tv sound all the way down so that the rest of the house doesn’t have to listen to what I’m listening to. If everyone wants to watch, I just turn the headphones off
