Slightly complicated answer(s). 1. The beacon can only talk to the eero base unit and not directly to your Apple router 2. Based on how you connect the eero base unit to the Apple router, it will create a new wireless id. 3. This is a full functional router so it will not just extend your existing network but create a new one. 4. Based on how you places the nodes, the signal will be strong. I have 3 story house and have the main eero router with 2 beacons and I get excellent signal at every corner of the house including basement (at 5 GHz)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My airport died and Apple no longer makes the airport and in a year or so probably won’t support it according to their techs. In short, according to Apple to extend the range of the extreme is going to take a lot of playing in the extreme configuration. I wanted to extend my range using my extreme and another airport that I had. They recommended either leave it and live with it or replace it entirely with a different product. A month later the extreme died. I replaced it with the $399 Eero system.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No it won’t strengthen your Airport signal but it will replace it with a lot stronger and consistent signal. You will have to reconfigure the devices you have connected to your current router but I can say that the speed and reliability will be better. I used to run an AirPort Extreme and this is a much better option IMHO.
