I connected my eero to the modem\router and it works just fine. I did hav e to buy an Ethernet add-on since eero only has one Ethernet port and I have an additional device (WDCloud) to plug in.

My router is a combo. I just had to put it in bridge mode to essentially deactive the router portion of the device. Works great. There are directions in the box on how to do it. You may just need to look up how for your specific device.
