No. there's splicing but not to your cars wiring. The adapter is a connector that plugs into your vehicles original radio plugs. The adapter has the connector on one end with wires sticking out that are color coded m to match with you new radio wiring. A a small portion of the insulation of the wires is stripped on the other end for splicing. A new car stereo will come with a plug that only fit the new stereo but it too will have color coded wires. It easy to match the colors up and splice. the new raid will then plug into the cars existing radio wiring and your good to go.
