I take it off for my own use (and I am a novelist so I am at my desk a LOT). I don't like the back slope and my hands/wrists seem to be fine without it.

Hi! I have carpal tunnel as well, the lift is not necessary it snaps right off, the keyboard has 2 clips in the front (one on each side) I just pull those out & it raises the top of the keyboard up just a little bit.. I won’t use any other ergonomic keyboard but this one, in my opinion it’s the best out there!

The lifts flip, you can have them out for extra lift or keep them in for no lift.

I have been using this same keyboard for over 12 years.i never used it and actually I just threw it away. But I don't have carpal tunnel. I guess it depends how you feel but it's good it is included in case you need it.
