In short no. Xbox live gold cards are considered half the normal price given for XGPU, so the Xbox Live 12 month only gives you 6 months of XGPU. Once you use your $1 trial you can never use it again on that account (as far as I know). The only way to get a year of XGPU is to pay for it either monthly or buy the cards. Usually around Black Friday the 3 month cards go on sale for around $22 which is a steal! I bought a years worth of those cards then to cut the cost in half pretty much. Hope this helps!
