Not all usb-c cables are the same. Some are 2.0, others 3.0, others deliver data but not power. I'm taking a wild guess here but it might be that some of your cables lack power delivery.

They are especially made for the consule and has the proper voltage to charge the controller. Using other types of Type C USB may not have the proper voltage to charge the controller.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It should work fine. There are 2 general types of usb type c cords (data transfer and just power). If you have a data transfer cable it will work the best because it then acts as a wired controller would. If its just power than you still have to connect to the xbox using a wireless function and the cord would just charge the controller. Previous xbox controllers used micro usb cables. I would guess thats where your problem is.
