I've used rechargeable AA batteries in the past with no problems. You can also purchase a play-and-charge kit to charge it while playing or in between sessions. Because it has a USB-C connection, I assume you might be able to charge it on other power sources.

This Xbox wireless controller uses two AA batteries and is not rechargeable on its own. To make it rechargeable, we recommend using a rechargeable battery pack designed for Xbox Series X/S controllers such as the Xbox Rechargeable Battery and USB-C Cable for Xbox Series X/S.
