“Is it possible to place a receiver or video game console in the lower cabinet? I don't see any holes for cables to run through. If not, are you required to put the back panel on the TV stand or could I leave it off so I can have just the shelves?”

Hi, There is one half circle for cord management in the lower cabinet. I would recommend assembling the TV stand as per the instructions with the back panel as it provides stability.
