• No, at least on most sets having more than one signal input, you can connect the antenna cable to a second [or off-air] input connector.

• If your cable box uses HDMI to connect to the television then no, you can connect the antenna to the coaxial port and just change your inputs when you want to use the antenna. If your cable box connects through coax then yes you will need to disconnect the cable box for the antenna to function.
