it is most likely because the 2nd generation was recently announced around the time of the price drop.Target isn't always the quickest with reflecting prices in technology. Best Buy is much better about it and most likely had more stock of the product as well since they are the biggest brick and mortar electronics retailer. I purchased mine at 150 and love it!
