“Do you have to purchase a certain brand or type string lights for it to work or is it compatible with any?”

• I have several brands of LED & incandescent lights from Home Depot, Menards, & Walmart and they all work just fine. But don't use Martha Stewart brand lights because there have been reports of them catching fire when dimmed/flashed/shimmered. (I know this because I've used the Light-O-Rama light & sound system for many years, and that's something that I learned from other Light-O-Rama users.)

• It works with everything I've plugged into it - nothing specific about them at all.
