You will only need a smart phone to set up Google Home initially, and then your mother can use it without the need for a smart phone by simply speaking to Google Assistant.

Please try again later.Some important settings do require the Google Home app for configuration, including the photo albums, which are more or less essential because it's fundamentally a photo display with extra features. Can use iPhone. Don't need Android per se. An app-based tablet like iPad should also work if you don't have a phone.
