It is a mesh with one WiFi point. HOWEVER...be very aware these are a little different than the original google WiFi in that the single WiFi point DOES NOT have any 1394 (eithernet) jacks on it. The original google WiFi ones did. This was a disappointment for me. However... to answer your question , when you get these, there is one that hooks up to your cable modem with one either port jack to be used by whatever you need to hook up to it...maybe like a computer. The second u it or WiFi point, will be set up somewhere in another location. This is what creates the mesh. Except for the above mentioned issue, they work great.
