Yes. Using an Ethernet 802.3 wired connection, I was able to use this device to bridge my laptop with no WiFi capability to a public network via a WiFi base station. The base station could be a mobile hot spot such as a hotel/motel, Starbucks, book store, etc...

You don’t need an extender if it’s going to sit next to your router. The point of the extender is to put it in a place where your signal is not as strong. There are LAN extenders which one device connects to your router via Ethernet and then you plug the second device in w.e room has a bad signal
