The cameras are motion activated and when triggered you will get a notification. You can also watch an area live, actually 4 areas live at one time. I have them set up in several location on our property so if I get an notification that one was set off by motion, I cannot see that camera live while it is recording, however I can go live to the other cameras to see what is going on and if it was a false alarm or something else is going on. You can set what amount of time that you want the video to record anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute and a half and if you are watching live and see something going on you can capture a still picture of what you are looking at and it will be saved in your library for future use like you have break in etc.

You can view in real time. Though beware that doing so kills the battery very quickly.

just motion activated for the most part. You can view live, but it times out after a few minutes this is not a good system for security. I learned that the hard way, got ripped off, and the theifs hacked the system and erased all their pictures. Allot of good that did, it cost me dearly (about 10k in losses)
