I think I will work. I use it in a basement and the Verizon router is on the first floor.

It should as long as your attic does not have excesively thick walls. If there is a window, place it near the window.

When you install this extender it gives directions to get the best communication from modem to this extender. From there it should be in sight of modem. I had trouble even getting to my back patio (150ft from modem) before i installed this. Now i am at about 400-500 ft before i lose bars

It would work if was line of sight to your main router. I don't believe you will get good connectivity from attic.
It has a good range for me. 2.4Ghz gives farther distance than 5ghz. Again I have line of sight to main router from extender.
