This will work with any provider. I used to have Xfinity, but now I have Verizon FiOS. If you connect via an Ethernet cable then you will not have to worry about any performance loss due to obstructions. You will not get the full 250Mbps but you should definitely get way more than 30Mbps. I am using mine with just the wireless feature (no Ethernet cable), and I am getting ~80Mbps and have several obstructions between the extender and main router (which is also a Nighthawk model). If I moved it in closer I would get well over 100Mbps, but 80Mbps meets my needs for this area of the house. If I directly connected it, it would be way faster, but never tested that and I have it a good 25 feet away on the top floor and my primary router is on the main level.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 250mb is the speed coming in but then the router splits it to the devices. If you have a 3100ac router, 2100 goes to 5ghz and 1000 to 2.4. 8 devices at 250mb/s on the 5ghz channel and 4 devices on the 2.4ghz channel that can handle the 250mb/s unless the router is capped at x devices before splitting. So your issue could be the router not the extender. If you have Xfinity, then it is probably the Arris which is a pretty stable platform and router. I believe some of those go up to 32 devices downstream and 8 upstream for DOSCIS 3.1, if you have 3.0 then its limited to 24/6 up and down. I know this stuff can be confusing, but the Netgear X6S will work with Xfinity, and should be able to handle 250mb/s especially if you have an ethernet cable running there. It will actually do another wonderful thing for you in the basement. It will create another 5ghz band so one 2.4 ghz and 2 5ghz bands so you do not bottleneck the one 5ghz. For me I used this to connect two points via wireless but it pulses the signal it receives but give a smooth signal out. Connecting an ethernet cable you will utilize an extra band to help speeds so this should all work. Now you just have to run the cable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It should. Once you plug in the extender you will either chose a WPS setup or via a weblink. I say use the weblink because it walks you through it a bit easier if not savvy. Also, you should not have to connect via ethernet. I have mine independent from my router upstairs in the living room and my router (Netgear X10) in the basement. I have had no trouble getting max speed wired or wireless int he house (4000sqft). Hope this helps
