It actually replaces the Nighthawk altogether. I just replaced my Nighthawk X6 with this Orbi setup and it’s so much better on the Wi-Fi. Works especially well in congested areas where your neighbors are really close and everyone has Wi-Fi.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are ways to make WiFi routers of different models work together but the main feature of the Orbi mesh system is the dedicated backbone channel between the two units, and the Nighthawk cannot participate in this. You could use a wired connection between the Nighthawk and Orbi routers. Assuming you already have the Nighthawk and want to add the Orbi, you can connect the WAN port of the Orbi to a LAN port on the Nighthawk.

This unit has a backhaul feature that I think, could be used to connect to a netgear (nighthawk) router but I do not know how that would work as either satellite or a standalone router. My guess is that as a standalone router you would be fine---I would think it's just another device but bandwidth via your ISP could get impacted. Sorry I couldn't say for sure.
