“Is this compatible with Xfinity Gateway? If so, does the router sit near the Gateway modem with a wired connection? Will I then see 4 possible wifi networks in the home? (the cable modem/router, the Orbi router, and 2 Orbi satellites?)”

I have Xfinity, and I connect the Orbi router to the Cable Modem. I have two SSIDs, one primary, and the second for guests. The two satellites do not create their own SSID. If you have a wifi cable modem router as your gateway, you may want to disable the SSID coming from that wifi modem. It's all how you configure.
