I just purchased the ORBI and it's working great as I had had several deadzones/dropped signals to my 3 Nest cameras and deadzones in the house where my wife's I-Pad wouldn't work.. Before purchasing the ORBI I did a good bit of research and the ORBI came out on top most of the time. Can't remember what it was but there were several negative reviews on the Luma. I would suggest you contact the ORBI Rep to get more details about parental controls. My kids are grown so I don't have to worry about controls, but do understand.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Parental controls are available using Netgear's Genie software. I had a lengthy discussion with a Optimum network consultant about the 2 systems before choosing the Orbi. He said that the main difference was that Orbi used an independent 1.7ghz signal to communicate with the satellite routers allowing for a faster wifi connection with components using the satellite. I tested the wifi speeds before and after the installation of the Orbi and he was right - there is a noticeable difference - up to 100mbs in some cases. Luma, apparently, will extend the 2.4 and 5ghz signal but there is a drop of wifi speeds that most people won't notice unless you are requiring fast speeds for gaming and video streaming. Very, very happy with the Orbi so far. Good luck.

Please try again later.I can't tell you much about the parental controls, only that I'm sure this will improve as newer firmware updates will be introduced with improved features, but when it comes to performance, range and speed, Orbi beats them all! perhaps you can look into an alternate solution for parental controls until the Orbi improves on that field? you could for instance use something like OpenDNS in the Orbi Router instead of the dynamic ones from your ISP? go to www.opendns.com sign up for an account and use their parental controls features instead?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Orbi has really good parental controls as well. I used the Luma and returned it because I did not like the limited app functionality. As a power user I needed more configuration out of my home WiFi system. The Orbi Is the superior system in all facets, if you want the best get the Netgear Orbi.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Orbi's Parental controls can currently be accessed using NETGEAR Genie. It Custom setting allows you to fine tune which devices are allowed or disallowed specific categories of content through the Parental Controls section of the app.
